Does dissolved oxygen affect pollution tolerance of macroinvertebrates?
Oral The pollution tolerance index (PTI) is a useful tool for summarizing stream quality based on the macroinvertebrate population present. The PTI scores for macroinvertebrates are based on overall pollution sensitivity of the organisms – so lower scores might be due to excessive sediment, toxic substances, high temperatures or low dissolved oxygen. We plan to investigate whether there is a relationship between PTI scores and dissolved oxygen levels in Boeckman and Mill Creeks. We suspect that there will be a positive relationship between the two – as DO increases, so will the PTI score of the creek. 2003 Effects of Industry on E. coli Concentrations in the Willamette River Poster This laboratory experiment was on the assumption that industries, especially paper mills, release organic materials into the Willamette River that would cause increased E. coli concentrations in the water. Samples were collected and analyzed from the Willamette River upstream of the paper mills and downstrea
