Does disinfection influence the stability of an alginate impression?
No, as long as the impression is not submerged for a too long period. Cavex advises against the use of alcohol-based disinfectants. These disinfectants will too quickly withdraw water from the impression, thus resulting is deformation. When using hypo chlorite (household bleach) submerge impression for 5 – 10 minutes in a 0,5 – 1% hypo chlorite solution. More information is found here…
