Answer Diet has a significant role in kidney stones. By definition, kidney stone patients are not drinking enough water. (If they did, they wouldn’t make stones!) DNA is also to blame in some cases. Changing your diet before you know the chemical problem causing your individual stones is likely to fail. First, you need to know the kidney stone chemical composition and get a 24 hour urine test for calcium, oxalate, uric acid, sodium, total volume, citrate, magnesium and phosphate.
