Does DFS have the authority to remove children from homes?

No. Wyoming is one of few states that doesn’t give family service workers that authority. Under Wyoming Statute Title 14, police officers, physicians and physician’s assistants or nurse practitioners can take children into temporary protective custody, and they must work with DFS to see that child is cared for while a judge decides the next best step.
