Does developing XBRL GL take away resources from developing XBRL more broadly?
With an initial vision of the integration of the Business Reporting Supply Chain, it is intuitive that the development of the Global Ledger Framework is a necessary part of the development of XBRL as a whole. However, XBRL GL is different than end reporting, and in particular financial reporting. As such, the demands of XBRL GL are sometimes in conflict with optimizing XBRL around financial reporting. In addition, the human resources of XBRL International Inc. and time at XBRL conferences are limited, and some people whose priority is external facing reporting may feel that attention to XBRL GL takes away resources from the vitally important external reporting world. On the other hand, external reporting is only the tip of the iceberg of the business reporting supply chain, and as a consequence of the space of XBRL broadly considered.
