Dementia refers to the progressive decline in cognitive function due to damage to the brain beyond what might be expected from normal aging. It is totally different than Downs syndrome which is a genetic disorder that is caused by the presence of all or part of an extra 21st chromosome. However some of the symptoms are similar such as cognitive disability and Learning disability.
