Does Deaf Community Ignore Hearing People?

I am currently attending college courses in ASL. In the beginning I was extremely excited about the course and entering into a new culture. It seems that the instructor, the Deaf community say, they need more people to get involved, they need advocates for the deaf, yet they ignore you. Is this normal? Should I persist, or save my money? Dr. Deaf Answers: You SHOULD persist! We, as Deaf community, need your support and welcome you to our community. One of our goals is to bridge the gap between two communities (Deaf and Hearing). You may face some discouraging messages from some Deaf people, but it doesnt mean that the whole community is ignoring you. Remember, we need you! Smile.
