Does DABS assess problem or challenging behaviors?
No. Because DABS is solely diagnostic, it does not involve planning of services. It is during the planning of services that the issue of problem behavior (e.g., mental illness or attention deficit disorder) comes into play. AAIDD has a separate instrument for that, the Supports Intensity Scale, which assesses supports/services needs more directly than an adaptive behavior scale does.
