Does court ordered community service help the one court ordered or the community?
I don’t see where it would hurt either one, but I do feel it helps both. The court gets to order a “punishment” for an offense but not a harsh one if it isn’t warranted. Plus the Judge probably feels that the offender will learn from the experience and will hopefully see that it is better to be an asset to the community rather than a person causing trouble. And the community benefits because it gains something from the efforts of the person ordered to do the painting, or cleaning up, or whatever the community service may be. I feel it’s a good thing all around and especially if the offender learns a lesson that “straightens” him or her out.
