It should be noted also and more importantly that Ponceau 4R is considered carcinogenic in some countries, including the USA, Norway, and Finland, and it is currently listed as a banned substance by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Corsodyl Original Mouthwash contains the colouring Ponceau 4R (E124), a synthetic “coal tar” dye and azo dye with a red colour. E124 can cause allergic reactions. The mint mouthwash, spray and dental gel do not contain colourings.
