Does chicken pox only happen once in a lifetime?
Most people get them and you are immune. BUT you can get Shingles because you had chicken pox. Which can lay dormant in your system – Also people who have the chicken pox vaccine have also gotten the chicken pox as well but often the case is a mild one. Not always there is that rare story. 90% of the time you are immune – but there is chance later in life you get shingles.
chicken pox, only once.HOWEVER–if u have had chicken pox once,it goes dormant in the cauda equina portion of ur spine.many decades l8r,when u are elderly and ur immune system is not functioning at its best anymore,if u are exposed to someone with active chicken pox,the dormant virus in ur spine will re-activate in the form of the uncomfortable illness known as shingles.(u dont necessarily have to be elderly to get shingles,a fellow nurse i know got it at 26,after dealing with a child with chicken pox.)that is why u should never expose an elderly person to a child with chicken pox.there is an anti-shingles shot now,but not everyone has taken it.shingles pain can linger a longtime after the acute stage is over,in the form of post-herpetic neuralgia.
