Does cell phone radiation exposure increase in an automobile?
Studies have demonstrated the cocoon-like, metal structure of an automobile increases radiation exposure when the phone’s circuitry increases its signal strength to compensate for poor reception, and that the metal structure reflects radiation, creating a ‘ricochet’ effect. Some automobile manufacturers now include warnings in their instruction manuals that cell phone users should add an external antenna, however this may be more out of concern about interference with the vehicles electronic systems.
