Does CAIA practice or support transgenic work with salmon?

No. It is known that there are and have been experimental research projects on transgenic salmon, but good husbandry and a well established stock selection program, based on traditional breeding principles, enable the production of prime salmon throughout the year. Salmon farmers’ associations have reacted negatively to such developments. Transgenic salmonid products are not commercially produced in Canada and cannot be purchased in the marketplace. Work on transgenic salmonids is strictly on an experimental, contained research scale.
