Does butter contain a lot of cholesterol?
No – cholesterol is found in food in tiny milligram (mg) amounts. A pound of butter contains 985 mg of cholesterol – less than 1 gram. A tablespoon of butter contains only 30 milligrams of cholesterol – and only 1/2 is absorbed. You would have to eat two pounds of butter daily in order to turn off the body’s own cholesterol synthesis.
