Does buprenorphine work as well as methadone?
In the last analysis, it is the response of the individual patient that determines which medication is most effective. Most studies, indicate that buprenorphine works almost, but not quite as well, as methadone for most patients. Experience in places where both are available indicates that while some patients prefer buprenorphine, most prefer methadone. Again, this (as in all clinical discussions) must be individually determined by the patient and physician.
