Does Britain need a constitution like America to defend its freedoms?
It already has Magna Carta and that’s enough. The trouble with a constitution is that it ages very quickly and loses relevance. Whilst the American constitution is a fantastic document, does every citizen really need the right to bear arms as part of a well organised militia? It’s a seventeenth century anachronism that cannot be changed. The question really should be how do we defend our freedom. The way to do is to hold your politicians to account. If your MP is not performing, challenge them. If you don’t want a DNA database, ID card or cctv on every street then get involved. The best defence against oppression is to make a stand. Actions are worth a thousand words even if those words are a written constitution.
