Does breastfeeding increase the risk from dioxin?
It is well-known that breast-fed children receive higher dosages of dioxin than formula-fed children. However, it is also well-known that children rapidly eliminate dioxins from their bodies, than do adults, and so that by the time a breast-fed child reaches later grade school periods, the amounts of dioxin in their bodies does not differ from formula-fed children. A few studies of breast-fed children, where dioxin levels in breast milk were much greater than they are today, found that breast fed children exhibited normal parameters for a variety of clinical and psychological tests. Many times the breast-fed children did better than formula-fed children, which, is typically known to be the case overall. Even though breast-fed children will receive more dioxin intake than formula-fed children it is still recommended by the experts that children be breast-fed.
