Does BioMetric provide a scoring system for allocating biodiversity incentives?
Yes. The scoring system in BioMetric provides a rigorous and repeatable means of scoring incentive proposals according to their benefit to biodiversity based on the regional value of the vegetation type, the benefits for threatened species, the landscape value, the site value and the duration of commitment. Sites are scored according to their current biodiversity value and the benefits to biodiversity of the proposed actions. The scoring system for biodiversity is based on outcomes not on actions. The BioMetric score for biodiversity can be used in tender schemes or reserve price mechanisms to provide a payment to landholders for biodiversity. Management of current vegetation for biodiversity and revegetation are both scored. CMAs are encouraged to enter their own priorities (such as riparian vegetation) into the regional value component of the incentives scoring system.
