No. The changes that will permit NP to order diagnostics and treatments for hospital in-patients will not take effect unless the Ministry introduces the necessary regulations under the Public Hospitals Act. Currently, Regulation 965 under the Public Hospitals Act gives NPs the authority to order diagnostics and treatments for outpatients only. The Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care is considering regulation amendments to complement and support the changes presented in Bill 179. These include changes to regulations under the Public Hospitals Act.
