Does Bill 179 enable NPs to write an order for another nurse to perform a procedure, such as venipuncture for the purposes of drawing blood?

Yes. Changes from Bill 179 will clarify that RNs and RPNs will be able to accept orders from an NP to perform controlled act procedures, including venipuncture. Once these changes take effect, RNs and RPNs will be able to accept client care orders from NPs to perform procedures for the purposes of diagnosing and treating clients. Currently, RNs and RPNs can only accept orders from NPs for certain procedures related to assessing or assisting clients with health management activities. The College will inform members when these changes take effect.
