Not exactly. PPPoE (Point to Point Protocol over Ethernet) sends “LQR” (Link quality report) packets which are a type of connection monitoring (keep-alive) system. However, these are sent on a protocol level, not on an IP level. In basic terms, ADSL does have a heartbeat, but it’s one that the end-user should never have to worry about.
