Does belief in Christianity stem from the fear of death or the unknown, and does it suppress education?
I believe the fear of death and the unknown created the belief in God/religion of all types including Christianity, Voodoo and the Mayan rites and by clinging to some useless institutional beliefs of a religion, educational advancements were/are and can be restricted. For example, Christians once deemed it heresy if anyone said the world was round and revolved around the sun. Think about how this bizarre rule unnecessarily delayed scientific advancements for hundreds of years. And more recently, Christians in the US claim the earth can withstand man’s disregard for the environment because God said so. We will see the effects of this resistance in the future, but by then they will deny they stood in the way of cleaning up efforts.
I suppose all humans have the fear of death. But, Christianity has the answer for the power of sin and death, and victory over the fear of it. This is not where Christianity stems from though. Christians typically use this approach, because eternity is what matters most to us, and where a person spends eternity is most important. Please watch my video that will explain: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PLWCAXWx7… As for education, Christianity definitely does not suppress it. But it does warn against philosophies and vain knowledge that go against what the Bible says.
