Does bankruptcy affect child support payments?
No, although a bankruptcy can wipe out other debts, it does not effect a child support obligation. Often the person paying support will threaten to file for bankruptcy unless the recipient is more cooperative. However, in reality a bankruptcy would actually alleviate some of the pressure from the paying party by eliminating outside debts, thereby making more money available to pay child support.
