Does Avon use animals in product testing?
On June 2, 1989, Avon announced a permanent end to all animal testing of our products, including testing done in outside laboratories. Our new safety evaluation program uses validated In-Vitro alternative tests, human clinical testing, and a huge database of ingredients and products that have previously been tested. Weve given all the details of this program to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, which is responsible for monitoring the safety of cosmetics. Avon was the first major cosmetics company in the world to end animal testing. We are proud of this breakthrough program. Our efforts were recognized in 1993 at the World Congress on Alternatives and Animal Use in the Life Sciences: Education, Research and Testing. Avon was also presented with the 1993 Johns Hopkins Center for Alternatives to Animal Testing Recognition Award.
