Does AutoCAD 2004 Support the Release 14 DWG File Format?
AutoCAD 2004 software application will open any version of a DWG file, including a version produced by AutoCAD Release 14. However, it does not support saving to this format because several new technologies and features available in AutoCAD 2004 will not adequately represent themselves in this older file format’s data structure. These features include Autodesk ShapeManager, True Color/PANTONE color libraries, gradient fills, digital signatures, MTEXT enhancements, sub-object materials (in Architectural Desktop), Object classification (in AutoCAD Map), and password-protection. To exchange data with customers who have AutoCAD 2000/2000i/2002, AutoCAD 2004 drawings can be saved to the AutoCAD 2000 DWG and AutoCAD 2000 DXF file formats. To exchange design data with partners and third-party vendors who need a pre-AutoCAD 2000 format, you can continue to use the R12 DXF file format.
