Does Austin need more venture capital to be a successful place for breeding startups?
While more venture capital for innovative startup companies is always desirable, it is worth noting that Austin already has a relatively active venture community according to the statistics. In fact, in Q1 2010, Austin was the 4th ranked city in terms of # of venture capital deals. It was only 1 of 2 cities (along with Seattle) that broke into the top 10 cities for venture capital deals. The other 8 were all in California, Massachusetts or New York (the traditional big 3 of venture capital).
