Does atheism lead to homosexuality or vice versa?

It would be disingenuous to simply give a yes or no answer and ascribe homosexuality to Atheism without exlpaining why, so bear with me. Look at it this way, if we know that a line drawn on a piece of paper is either straight or curved, we understand this only because a theoretical perfectly straight line exists to which we can compare this line, thereby defining it as straight or curved based upon its level of deviation from that ideal. So, too, all things which we would label as good or bad must be so according to their level of deviation from the ideal state. It is clear then that a TRUE morality — and not simply something which we call morality because it is a benefit for our current society — would be nonexistant without an Ideal from which we are able to deviate. Without acknowledging this Ideal one cannot find fault with any deviation from it, hence homosexuality becomes harmless. Once an individual is committed to any deviation, it becomes all too easy to continue in that dev

Atheism is a belief system that makes no value judgement about homosexuality or heterosexuality. Good and bad are relative terms with no absolute meaning for atheism. So it is quite possible that a homosexual will be drawn to atheism as a belief system that allows him to behave in that way. I think that it is more likely that a rejection of God leads to both atheism and behaviours such as homosexuality. It is such a belief that leads people to claim (as above) that homosexuality is not immoral. Most people from the major faiths believe unequivocally that homosexual practice is immoral. Of course atheists do not agree that homosexuality is wrong. They have no moral absolutes, and they are free to decide for themselves what they think is right and wrong. (That doesn’t actually make them right or wrong of course, since absolute truth exists independantly of any one person’s belief.) They will decide what they think is right and wrong according to their personal tastes. There are a few Chr

I have to say, in my experience, there are plenty of gays who believe in god…..and some even believe in your god. Connecting homosexuality with Atheism is simply lumping together two groups that you disagree with. And I’ve known plenty of heterosexual Atheist. In fact, I don’t know any gay Atheist (not saying they don’t exists, I just don’t know any). You lumping them together is like me asking you if being a Christian makes you heartless to other people’s pain, or if being heartless to other people’s pain makes you a Christian. Please tell me you understand the ridiculousness of this.

There is no causality between homosexuality and atheism. There may be a correlation, but only because the religious are constantly telling them they are perverts while denying them civil rights because of a 2000 year old book that condones concubines.

Neither. Homosexuality exists regardless of religious belief and people have religious faith regardless of their sexuality. Many homosexuals have a strong faith. They recognise that their sexuality conflicts with the conventional doctrine of their faith. Some state that the conventional view is wrong, others go along with the conventional view but believe that there is nothing that God will not forgive, active expression of sexuality included. There is no difference in attitudes towards homosexuality between atheists, religious believers & agnostics. The same proportion of each viewpoint are intolerant, neutral or tolerant of it.
