DOES ASME B30.9 REQUIRE UNIQUE SERIALIZATION?
There is no written requirement in B30.9 requiring “unique marking”. Alloy Chain and Metal Mesh sling manufacturers have done it for years as a regular matter of course. These manufacturers indicate the cost of the slings, the long life expectance and the ability and occurrence of repairs, which make this a prudent way to mark their slings. Customers’ insistence or expectation of this being done may also add to the action.
