Does asking for a price amendment after accepting contract open negotiations back up?
Our bid on a multiple offer foreclosure was accepted this morning. My agent suggested we keep it simple and stick with the net sales price during the original negotiations and then at a later date go back in and amend the sales price for whatever closing costs we would need. This afternoon we’re told that if we want to change our offer it will open negotiations back up with all parties, even if it results in the same net sales price to the seller. We decided to stick with original offer and plan on asking for the price amendment shortly before my financing contingency expires in 21 days. The listing agent warned that any new offer, whether today or in three weeks, will result in negotiations opening back up on the property. Can they do that?? I’d hate to pay for appraisals, inspections and all of the other expenses just to have them accept another offer in three weeks.
