Does ASA24 assess usual salt use?
A salt intake module is planned for the future. The module will include questions similar to those asked in the NHANES survey and query the respondent about the addition of salt to food at the table (type of salt usually added, how often salt is added), as well as how often ordinary or seasoned salt is added in cooking or preparing foods in the household. The addition of salt to individual foods will not be probed within ASA24, so researchers needing more precise information on salt or sodium intakes might consider administering additional questions to their respondents outside of the ASA24 system.
