Does artex contain asbestos?
Up until 1984 these decorative paints contained small amounts (3-5%) of Chrysotile white asbestos so there is a strong possibilty that the artex does contain asbestos. If the artex does contain asbestos, and even though the amount of asbestos is small – you should not attempt to remove it yourself as scraping it can release minute fibers and dust which you could inhale. It is definately the council’s job to remove it and they will use protective masks to do so. Give them a ring and tell them that you highly suspect that the artex contains asbestos as you beleive that it is pre 1984.
