Does appliance spray paint really work?

When appliances are manufactured, the paint is applied as a powdercoat. They apply a positive electrical charge to the chassis and spray negatively charged enamel paint powder on it. They then bake the enamel on by placing the chassis into an oven. This is why original appliance paint is so thick, yet it covers so uniformly. If you then come along and spray something like an enamel appliance paint over that, it won’t have the same thickness and durability as the original powdercoat enamel. The best way to describe it, I guess, is that it comes out looking like a car that was painted over with Krylon or something. You can change the color. But, you won’t get the original uniform finish.
