Does Apple buy back used Apple computers from consumers?
Apple doesn’t have a consumer buy-back or trade-in program for their older models. They have a trade-in program, but only for corporate and educational customers who buy machines in large numbers. They do, however, have a recycling program: http://www.apple.com/environment/recycling/ that will take an old computer, iPod, or cell phone (even another company’s) for recycling rather than landfilling. If you buy a new Mac, they’ll recycle your old PC and/or display free of charge. When you buy a computer in “refurbished” condition, you are getting one that has been sold and returned to Apple because of defects or a mismatched order. I don’t know if Apple has a corporate leasing program, like many other makers do, but sometimes a refurbished computer is one that’s come off a short-term lease.
