Does AP credit allow me to “pass out” of Theory I? Alternatively, does the department administer placement tests to allow students to pass-out of Theory I and/or Musicianship I?
AP credit is not normally sufficient to allow a student to pass out of Theory I. If a student wishes to pass-out of Theory I or Musicianship I, he or she should make an appointment with the course instructor at the start of the semester (or before) to discuss the possibility of a placement test. If the student demonstrates a sufficient level of achievement on such a test, he or she may pass out of the course at the discretion of the instructor.
