Does anyone who gets arrested on the show Cops have to give consent to be shown on tv?
I actually saw an interview last year of the Producer of this show. The show host asked this same question to the Producer. The producer responded that years ago, it was very hard to get consent from the people to be shown in tv. Now, he said, it’s much much easier since people see Cops as an opportunity to be in tv and equate it as their 15 minutes of fame even though it’s not of the best circumstances (to say the least). Also, in our culture today, it seems that doing something “bad” gives street credence and bragging rights to criminals.
