Hybridization Theory provides a useful picture of covalent chemical bonding. It allows us to accurately predict the 3-dimensional shapes of molecules, as well as the correct valency for each atom. Hybridization theory also gives us useful information about the relative acidity of organic molecules based upon the %s character of a hybrid orbital.
