Does anyone really care if products are green? You know – environmentally friendly?
I care a lot, but I have to be really careful about what “green” really is. We use reuseable nylon bags for our groceries, and their pretty green because they last for years. Sometimes I see a “green” product, especially in foods, but it gets shipped from across the country instead of from a local farmer. There is no way that they can save enough in packaging it as green to make up for all of the fuel it took to get it here. Almost everything can be green if you take the time to recycle it properly. Other than that, using common sense to figure out if it really has a positive impact or not makes the most sense to me.
There was a time that I did. When I graduated from college, I sneered at anyone who bought products in the wrong packaging or drove the wrong car… Thankfully I grew up after years in the Marketing industry, which showed me that most of these “green” claims were silly ways to capture another market niche.
