Does anyone own a Select Comfort Sleep Number bed?
We have owned our sleep number bed for going on 5 years. Previously we had water beds and conventional matresses. After about 3 years the foam edges started to cave in. I have always been one to sit on the edge of the bed to put on socks and dress. But apparently because we don’t have a high sleep number and therefore less air to support the sides the foam pieces tip. This has put a strain on the fibrous fabric that lines the mattress topper and ended up distorting the entire mattress. One side almost looked like it was cantilevered since it stuck out a foot over the bed side yet had nothing under it to support it. The manufacturer says we are able to replace the top at a pro-rated cost. We will do that since that is still cheaper that getting an entire new mattress. My husband has been sleeping on the couch until we get this fixed as it’s not very comfortable for two people until it is repaired. It is worth it to me because my wife and I prefer such different firmness in a mattress. Most mattresses are too firm for my comfort. The price seemed high once I saw the simple construction of the mattress. They are quality parts, but it is simply 2 air mattresses surrounded by foam, and an electric air pump and control mechanisms. The bed comes with a foam topper of varying thicknesses. If you are going to spend this much for a mattress, I would splurge for the thickest topper to mask the sense of the air mattress below it. The leading competitor of this bed is the pure foam bed which is not adjustable. It comes in varying firmnesses, but for the whole mattress.
