I’m under the impression that yamaha have a few basic types that get used on their various synths, but don’t necessarily carry them over in `upgrades’ — e.g., the S90 might not have the same keyboard as the S80, but the motif might (or something). I recently tried an S90 and really loved the keyboard, and am wondering if there’s something a bit cheaper available with the same action… Answer: There are cheaper Yamahas with 88 weighted keys (S-08, DGX-500 and P-series stage pianos), but I don’t know if they have exactly the same graded hammer action keyboards. Actually, it’s the S-08 that has the same keyboard, not the S80. I asked a friend who works for Yamaha’s keyboard division, and here’s the response: The S08 has the same action.
