Does anyone know where is a good place to advertise Bookkeeping services other than gumtree in the UK?
As a small and localised business you should not waste any money on promotion outside your local area. As a former advisor to people setting up businesses with grants from the prince’s Youth Business trust, I found that few new businesses survived if they paid for classified advertising in newspapers. In fact, the most successful business we set up used to print off a thousand leaflets and drop them through the letter boxes on industrial estates. The leaflets always gave an incentive to call him such as a month’s work for free if they called before a certain date. There is also a large market for doing tax returns for the self-employed so spend a day in town looking for vans that carry phone, fax and/or e-mails of local service providers (gardeners, cleaners, builders, home remodelling firms … you can extend this list).
