By current US law, death rays can’t be features on mobile phones. So I think that the iPhone won’t meet your needs. Since the iPhone hasn’t even made it to 3G yet, there’s no timeline for 4G. AT&T has said that they’re planning on a 3G iPhone this year, but haven’t given any more details than that. Most companies don’t like to say when the next version of something is coming out, because they don’t want to hurt current sales.
