Camera Lucida was written in memory of his mother and in homage to Sartre’s phenomenology of the the imagination. (Wow)! Essentially, Barthes wrote of the meaning, the politics and the language of photography. For a simpler explanation of his work try ‘Thinking Photography’ By Victor Burgin.
