Does anyone know what the lifesaving chain of rescue is?
You’ve pretty much got it, I think. As far as I remember (it’s been a long time since I did my lifesaving awards!), it goes like this: Check for danger Shout for help Talking rescue Throwing rescue (rope or floatation aid) Reaching rescue (if possible) Rowing rescue Swimming rescue with a reaching/floatation aid (non-contact) Swimming rescue without an aid (contact rescue) or simply: Talk Throw Reach Row Swim with an aid Swim and tow Another way to remember is to think about how much risk you will incur as the rescuer, since the first rule of lifesaving is, “Don’t become a casualty yourself”. Hence, a ‘dry’ rescue is preferable to a ‘wet’ rescue, and a ‘non-contact’ rescue is preferable to a ‘contact’ rescue.
