Does anyone know what HMS Centurion was up to during the Boxer Rebellion of 1900?
played a very limited part. However the ships on the China station, HMS Centurion included, were a very convenient source of manpower for operations ashore. HMS Centurion contributed many bluejackets and marines to the landing parties that made up the Naval Brigade. Centurion was a battleship of 10,500 tons and the flagship of Vice Admiral Seymour. The Captain incidentally was Capt John Jellicoe, the future admiral of WW1. Of the crew, there are 20 2-bar medals (TF and RP) , 8 TF, 390 RP and 332 no bar medals (total 750) The ship had casualties of 20 KIA, 8 DOW and 61 WIA There are 23 pages of combined Naval despatches in the LG here, with several mentions of Centurion.
