Does anyone know the approx. fare to the Smithsonian area?
Of these, I’ve stayed at the Marriott Gateway and the Residence Inn in that area, and they were both very nice. It’s a great location for visiting DC. I would recommend taking the Metro instead of a taxi to get to the Smithsonian. If you’re headed for Air and Space or the National Gallery, you can take the yellow line to L’Enfant Plaza and you’ll be there in less than 10 minutes for $1.35 off peak. If you headed more toward the Washington Monument, then you can take the Blue line to Smithsonian, but this will take closer to 20 minutes. Personally I prefer the yellow line and walking down the mall unless the weather is unpleasant. http://www.wmata.
