Does anyone know of digital lockers companies in the US simiar to Xdrive?
“Digital lockers” typically fall into two categories: ones that specialize in backup and ones that specialize in remote access. XDrive specializes in remote access. You put your files online and can access them from anywhere. SugarSync and Box.net let you do that. SugarSync goes a step further and allows you to automatically synchronize changes you make on any machine with the files on the server and other machines you want to sync. I use SugarSync and it’s worked fine as long as you don’t consider it “backup”. That’s because if you make a change to a file, it’ll write that change to the server and other sync’ed machines as soon as you make it. If you make a mistake, it gets sync’ed too. (It does have a provision for deleting files.) Services like Mozy and Carbonite specialize in backup. They’ll automatically take your files and securely store them.
