Does anyone know of any chicken battery farms in the UK?

The bhwt are the best people to contact – the posters above have given the website address. When you get your battery hens it is inevitable that some of them will die shortly after rehoming. Often they only last a few weeks/months due to the stress that they’ve lived under whilst being caged. You will have to be prepared for this and it’s all part of the process of keeping rehomed hens. http://www.downthelane.net/forum/index.p… http://www.thepoultrygarden.com/phpbb/ These two forums will give you lots of information about keeping chickens and also valuable healthcare information. Keeping chickens is very rewarding and lots of fun.

I think the best thing to do is go through a rescue centre, as they probably have things going on with a lot of farms with battery chickens. I’d look on the internet it depends a lot on where you live. Here is a website that might be helpful: http://www.bhwt.org.

The damn things are everywhere but rehoming battery hens isn’t so easy as it seems because they easily become terrified by large spaces so you’ve got to know what you are doing and no matter how many you take in the factories will keep bringing in more. It’s nice to know that someone cares enough about them to make that kind of effort though. This site might help: http://www.happychicks.co.

There are a lot of them, but for obvious reasons they are not advertised. You could use the BHWT website (http://www.bhwt.org.uk/) and get hens through them, but I got my ex-barn hens through a local community farm, they rescue ex-barn or ex-bat hens and keep them on the community farm to teach others about them. My fiance also used to deal with battery hens from his work and you can get some through that – he was an agricultural advisor with FWAG, you could possibly ask around, but most people will not give you an address in case you are one of those animal rights people. Your best bet would be the BHWT, but you have to have a minimum of three, and there is a waiting list. Also, just something to think about, battery hens have never seen grass, or rain, or snow, they do not know what it is to be too cold or too hot, they will not understand about predators, or how to go to bed at night. I do not think battery farming is a good thin
