Does anyone know if you can buy portable multitrack recorders in Harbin or Beijing?
If it’s up to date and electronical then you can buy it in China, but you’d better be good at bargaining! There are huge electronic markets that sell cheap copies of brand name items or sometimes even brand name items that fell off the back of a lorry. I think you’d do better price wise in Harbin, but better choice wise in Beijing. Make a friend there and ask him/her to take you, there’s no set price in China and everything involves bargaining so knowing the language and culture is a must for a good deal. Oh and whatever you’re prepared to pay, half it!!
