Does anyone know if uniforms are apart of all Detroit Public Schools for the 2006-2007 school year?
A new uniform policy that takes affect in Detroit Public Schools next week will mostly affect high schools, officials said Monday. Most elementary and middle schools already have dress codes that fall in line with the new uniform policy. But most high schools will be new to the uniform policy that bans jeans, large-letter logos and known gang colors. The school board passed the policy in May citing a desire to reduce student discipline problems and promote student achievement. School officials held a press conference Monday to remind parents about the new rules. Students will have to wear solid khaki, navy blue or black pants or knee-length skirts. Shirts must be collared and tucked in. Facial piercings are prohibited. Cody High senior Akanni Burrell, 17, predicted that the hardest part about enforcing the dress code will be getting the boys to keep their shirts tucked into their trousers. “That tucking the shirt in for the boys, that’s one of the things we can’t stand,” Burrell said.
