Does anyone know if they make an Impact printer that is laser or inkjet?
These are three very different technologies. An impact printer strikes a preformed metal character against a ink ribbon, transferring the character image to the paper, exactly like an old fashioned typewriter. These are not very widely used anymore. An inkjet sprays liquid water based ink in a pattern directly onto the paper as the inkhead is scanned across the page. A laser printer has a photosensitive drum, onto which the image is scanned by a laser, changing the polarity of the charge where a pattern is to be formed. It is picks up toner (a very fine plastic powder) of the opposite charge using electrostatic attraction, which is then deposited on the paper and heated to bond with the paper.
